Mid Year Reports 2020

Yarrabah’s mid year report in 2020 will look a little different to previous years. The student report against the curriculum is part of our commitment to document your child’s progress and achievement.

Our teachers and therapist agreed that assigning levels of progress for each student, in each curriculum area would not be an accurate reflection.  Instead the reports will comment on the focus within each curriculum area. This is a useful description of what has been taught and in some cases, what must continue being taught overcoming terms.

The reason for not assigning a level of progress against each curriculum area is clear. Many students did not attend school at the end of Term one due to the state of emergency being imposed. In some cases, students missed at least three weeks of learning in Term one. The school supported these decisions at that time. Consequently staff face-to-face teaching was reduced. As a result it was decided that assigning a level of progress would not be fair, equitable or accurately reflect the progress some students have or may not have made during this period.

The school has instead focussed all energy on supporting the foundations for student learning. We believe there is plenty of time, next semester to re-assess student progress in the individualised approaches required.

Of course, there is recognition that students participated in the curriculum and this is reflected in the general comment at the end of the report. There is also a comment on the student’s transition back to school after remote learning.

In the final week of term you will be invited to participate in an SSG with your teacher. During that half hour meeting, you will be able to discuss areas of the report in more detail, the relevancy of the current student goals and the return to school.

All reports will be sent home via email by the 19th of June. Please ensure the office has your current email address for mailing purposes.

If you would like to discuss the report format with me, please feel free to contact the school.
