Technology and Applied Studies

Year 7

Digital Technologies

Classes have been tasked to create a product using the program Illustrator as well as the Laser Cutter. We look forward to see how their clever designs progress.

Agriculture and Food Technologies

During the online learning period students planted vegetables and cooked their own bread. Now back at the College students will continue with their practical tasks and design their own hamburgers.

Year 8

Year 8 are currently studying a unit on Mixed Materials, they have the opportunity to learn about floor design applications and how to redesign a room in their home. Each student has designed an item that has been repurposed for a room in their house.

Year 9

Timber

Timber classes have completed their Four Joint Frame project. They will now commence work on a Trinket Box allowing them to explore complex woodworking techniques.

Metal - Year 9 Campfire BBQ’s are underway and will incorporate a number of new techniques. Mig and Oxy welding, as well as plasma cutting are all included within this project and should provide students with an enjoyable challenge.

Food

Students took part in Mater Kitchen rules, at home. They cooked one of their favourite recipes, took a photo and uploaded it for critiquing.

Now back at the College students are learning about Food Equity. They will examine food production and distribution globally and how influencing factors such as; transport, infrastructure, political environment and geographical considerations play a part in access to adequate food supply.

Agriculture

Students are mid-way through their Poultry Production unit, having successfully cared for day-old laying chicks. As the cold weather approaches, students will utilise the new greenhouse to speed up our growing of winter vegetables.

Year 10

Timber

Year 10 have been working on the construction of a Clock Face. Students were given creative control over almost all aspects of their Clock Face. This has resulted in a range of sizes, shapes and designs. Most students have incorporated the use of the laser cutter and epoxy to add detail to their original designs.

Food

Year 10 have also been learning about Food Equity. As well as  examining the global food production and distribution and associated influences, students will plan and prepare safe and nutritious foods appropriate to specific situations.

Agriculture

Students ran their own cropping trials during the online learning period. They tested different planting factors and impacts. A similar trial will take place on a broader scale on the College Canola crop.

Metal -  Students have been busy constructing a Motorbike quick lift, in a more efficient way. After surveying the previous year group and responding to student needs, considerable improvement of the quality control procedures and task procedures have been made to make the learning opportunity more meaningful. The new ways are proving to be successful with students producing quality work, in a timely manner.

IST

Students have been focusing on automated control in the home and society. They have been using the Tinkercad application to create, test and simulate electronic circuits, which will be used to create a code enabling them to control an Arduino board.

Graphics

Students have been completing an architecture unit and are in the process of using their CAD drawings to create 3D models of their designs.

Year 11

Design and Technology

Students have continued to work on their Minor Design Project, creating solution to a selected problem. Students have begun to create a portfolio including areas they need to investigate; drawings and prototypes to solve a problem.

Agriculture

Year 11 have completed their plant production unit after setting up their own planting trial at the College with Vetch and Canola. This will be maintained and monitored throughout the year to see the effect of sowing density on plant growth. Their next unit will explore animal production and investigate the issue of internal parasites in regional ruminant animals.

Year 12

Design and Technology

Major design portfolios are now well underway, with many prototype ideas.  This year there is a wide variety of projects being managed. From a vegan market stall through to an electric Ukulele. Once again, this years cohort is taking on some big challenges to solve some real world problems.

Agriculture

Students have completed their Farm Product study unit which focused on the production, marketing and technologies involved in beef production. Students are beginning to explore what farming looks like in the 21st century with the innovative resources available.
