Remote Learning Term 2

Our Year 9s have been working hard at home. Our topic has been persuasive language. To take advantage of students easy access to their laptops, the year 9s put together pitches for unwanted (and unneeded) products: stinky cheese, dog beards and used toothbrushes.

Our students created radio pitches, sales ads and posters advertising their products.

They used emotive language, imagery, pricing and the ‘3 appeals’. This work shows the creativity of our Year 9 students.

The year 9s have also started to analyse language techniques in famous speeches. They review Barack Obama’s inauguration speech, discussing the use of persuasive language techniques. Through the use of Teams the students were able to post their opinions and offer feedback quickly on their classmates’ ideas. Here is an example of the exceptional level of analysis shown by Kosta Nikitas:

He introduces the speech using different types of writing such as emotive language to link up with the audience, so the audience has a sense of familiarity with the topic. He ends the speech with a simple sentence that gives a very strong message by referencing the people that have served America. Throughout the speech he keeps using “On this day, we gather/we come” to bring together the audience and act as one.
