From the Principal

Friday June 19th is our next Pupil Free day.

All staff will be working on site undertaking professional learning.

Ancillary staff will be involved in training focused on supporting students with autism and on developing some resources for us to use at school.

Teaching staff will be focusing on Reading Comprehension. This is one of our three areas identified in our Site Improvement Plan.

We will be looking closely at student achievement in reading comprehension and working on our whole school consistent approach to explicitly teaching reading comprehension strategies.

It is one thing to be able to read all the words on the page, but another altogether to be able to understand the meaning of the text.

You can help your child/ren to better understand what they read by:

·         Ensuring they have daily reading practice at home.

·         Talking to them about what they read – asking some questions to check that they understand.

·         Talk about any new words they come across in the text – a great opportunity to build their vocabulary.

Please make a time next term to discuss your child/ren’s learning with their teacher.

Kind Regards

Joy
