Rock Dinosaurs

GEKA Brady Road Educators

Investigation of dinosaurs have led to rich learning. There is much to explore including habitat, sources of food, fossils and different size, shape, and type of dinosaurs with children. The following art experience, explores shape and size using natural materials.

Materials:

Small natural smooth stones and pebbles  (small and medium sizes)

Small goggle eyes

Thick cardboard pieces

Hot glue gun

Images/figurines of dinosaurs

  • Have image or figurines of dinosaurs available for children to refer to and use them when talking about the main features of easily identifiable dinosaurs. Features to highlight include size and length of body, legs, neck, head, teeth and tail and those with plates on their backs.
  • Ask your child their favourite dinosaur and identify the shape of its body and head. Look closely at its main features and then choose stones/pebbles which are good shapes to replicate those features.
  • Choose stones for the main body and head of the dinosaur. Next add smaller stones for the legs and tail. Use the hot glue gun (adult only) to secure the dinosaur design in place onto the card. Lastly, add google eyes to finish the experience.
