PASSPORRT

Drug & Alcohol Program

As students have returned to school, Year 9's have participated, onsite, in the PASSPORRT Program. PASSPORRT is a drug and alcohol awareness program aimed at giving students the skills to make good decisions when exposed to situations involving drugs and alcohol.

Students previously participated in drug and alcohol education while in remote learning, providing them with a background and some idea of the issues faced with drugs and alcohol.

The PASSPORRT allows students to experience an idea of what it is like inside a pub and night club. Hotel security laws are explained relating to entering a licensed premises, as well as what is acceptable identification. Strategies for coping if you felt unsafe while in a pub or club were also discussed. Students were divided into four groups where they rotated between experts who deal with drug and alcohol issues:

Legalities – discussing drink spiking, staying safe, looking after your mates, planning your night and how to get home afterwards, as well as other legal issues.

Standard Drinks – discussed the effects of alcohol, what is deemed to be a standard drink, drink spiking, and staying safe.

Addiction – What is addiction? Why do people get addictions? Signs of addiction.

Beer Goggles activity (ran by Adolescent Health Nurses) –  students are given goggles to wear with lenses that distort your vision to the equivalent of different blood alcohol levels. Students then try to walk along a straight line, throw and catch a ball, and try and find things.
