School Uniform
Dear Parents and Carers
It has been wonderful to welcome back our Greater Shepparton Secondary College (GSSC) students to on-site learning.
In late May, our Year 11 and 12 students returned after six weeks away and last week, our teachers and support staff were pleased to have our younger students back in their respective campus classrooms after almost two months of remote learning.
Having all students able to safely return to their regular school routine before the end of Term 2 allows our teachers to assess student progress and ensure they are back on track with their studies.
May I again extend our thanks to the tremendous efforts made by our students, their families and carers in this most challenging of times.
When students finished Term 1 on 24 March, the weather was of course milder than it is now. While our school dress code policy allows students to wear summer, winter or a combination of both uniforms, parents should prepare for colder weather conditions and encourage students to dress appropriately.
Therefore, I wish to remind parents and carers of aspects of the Student Dress Code Policy that may assist in ensuring students are warm when travelling to and from school or otherwise outdoors:
- The uniform includes long pants and long skirt options;
- Students may wear a plain white, long-sleeved top under uniform items;
- Black stockings/leggings may also be worn under uniform items or, in the case of girls, with summer skirts;
- Long pants and soft-shell jackets are available in all sizes at the three Shepparton retail stores stocking Greater Shepparton Secondary School uniforms.
*For more detail, please refer to the Student Dress Code Policy
Black leggings and white, long-sleeved tops are available at local stores at a modest cost.
The GSSC jumper is not available in all shops yet but will be by the start of next term. As per the dress code, students may wish to wear long-sleeved tops underneath the soft-shell jacket in colder weather.
With respect to uniform costs, we are extremely grateful for the $200 Victorian Government voucher provided to parents and carers to supply them with Greater Shepparton Secondary College uniform items at the start of Term 1. Any unspent funds can continue be used at your nominated uniform shop.
We understand that some families may be experiencing financial difficulties during this time. Financial assistance is available through State Schools’ Relief. For assistance in applying please contact your Learning Mentor and they will be able to provide the application support and advice you need.
Finally, may I thank parents and carers for understanding and adhering to our dress code. Our school uniform is an important aspect of the inclusive, proud culture we are creating at GSSC.
Sincerely,
Genevieve Simson
