Lexia Club

Students from Year 1 to Year 4 have been accessing the program at their specific level during class time. Teachers have also set additional time as part of the year level 'homework' tasks, should you want your child to do supplementary practice tasks at home on a device (iPad or computer/laptop). If you would prefer your child not do these online tasks at home, or do not have a device for your child to access, please feel free to utilise the 'Lexia Club' instead.

This club will run on Thursday mornings from 8:20-8:50am in Olivia's classroom (upstairs in the double portable) so students have an opportunity to complete this supplementary practice should they wish to but are unable to do so at home. We will run this for Term 2 and see what levels of need there is in the community. Should you have any questions, please email Carly

The Great Kindness Challenge

The JSC are very excited to announce that we are starting a new initiative called ‘The Great Kindness Challenge.’

This challenge provides educators and students with the tools, opportunity, and encouragement to actively create a positive, respectful, and inclusive community for all.

This program was initially created to encourage students to actively promote kindness, to make schools and the world a better place in general for everybody’s benefit. We have given every class a poster of suggestions of how to show kindness in a variety of ways. We hope that even after this challenge ends, everybody will continue their acts of kindness, and be able to fill somebody’s bucket every day 😊

What do you see when you look at me?

NLPS and its Parents Club were so pleased to offer a special information session to parents and families this past Tuesday evening, presented by Chrissie Davies, a child behaviour expert, author, educator and passionate advocate for understanding neurodivergent children. Entitled ‘What do you see when you look at me?’, Chrissie spoke about viewing behaviour through a brain-based lens and the importance of teaching and modelling ‘brain care’ and a growth mindset, building resilience and social skills, and developing self-awareness. She also shared her expertise and thoughts around the importance of the parent-school partnership and discussed ways parents can work with the school to best support their child and their individual needs, as it definitely ‘takes a village’.

Chrissie spoke very positively of what the school has been doing in the area of inclusion and supporting students and their families, and Assistant Principal, Carly Bannon, was also there to attest that NLPS certainly looks to build strong partnerships with families to ensure our shared responsibility of growing up happy and healthy kids is achieved! Chrissie encouraged parents to walk the talk when it came to celebrating and valuing all differences to assist with building their child’s self-acceptance.

The online event was very well attended. A big thank you to Chrissie and to all those that were able to make it. For more information about Chrissie and her wonderful work, please go to Chaos to Calm. As always, if you wish to reach out to your child’s teacher, or Carly, to build on this important relationship, please do so via email to make a time to visit/talk further.

Building Fund & Library Fund Donations  - Tax Deductable Donations

Thank you to the families who have already made contributions to these funds. Your support is greatly appreciated.

With the end of the financial year approaching, we would like to remind the community that any donations made to these funds are tax deductable. If you would like to make a contribution, please contact the office.

Lost Property

Lost property is overflowing! Please come in and check if any of your child’s items are there to be collected. We also encourage parents to remind your child to be responsible and check for their belongings if they misplace items as well.

Please ensure all items are labelled with your child’s name so they can be easily returned to classrooms. Any items without names will be put into the second hand uniform collection at the end of each term.
