Governing Council Reports
Early Years PLC
The Early Years students have had a busy and exciting start to term 2! We enjoyed attending the Mother’s Day stall and creating gifts for our mothers/special person.
In English, we have continued the DFE units, with this term’s focus being on narratives. In maths, we have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects. We also have been talking about positional language. During HASS lessons we have been talking about our families and how they change over time. We have created family trees and family houses.
It has been a busy term so far. Week 4 was the start of school swimming at the Aquadome with half of our classes attending and the remaining classes heading off in week 5.
We have been working with Sonia in the resource centre to make book trailers. Students have enjoyed getting to learn new digital technology skills. In Maths, we have been exploring multiplication and making arrays with a variety of concrete materials.
Primary Years PLC
Week 4 has seen some of our classes head off to swimming at the Aquadome with the rest of our classes heading off in week 5.
In English, year 4 students are currently looking at poetry and year 3 students are looking at the stolen generation, through the text Stolen Girl.
In visual arts, we have used The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan to explore imaginative drawing techniques and textures. In Media Arts this term, we will be exploring celebrations from across a range of cultures using a variety of technologies and media which will build their skills in animation.
Middle Years PLC
The middle years have had a very busy term so far, going on camp to Wirraway saw many friendships blossoming and many friendships strengthened.
The middle years students are currently working on completing a short story from the English unit. This term saw the completion of the kitchen garden assignment for design and technology. The students also finished off their painterly portraits for art.
Performing Arts
F-2 students will learn to use the elements of dance to structure dance sequences that communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning. Students will be focusing on fundamental movement skills and safe dance practice in pairs and small groups. Students will perform their improvised dance sequences in front of the class in small groups. All children have an opportunity to lead the dance, and the dances the students will learn are the Robot dance and the Lantern and the Lion dance.
Students in years 3 and 4 will learn the “Lanterns and the Lions” dance and “Elements of Nature” style of dance. Students will perform their improvised dance sequences in front of the class in small groups.
Students in years 5 and 6 will learn the "We are Robots” dance and the “Sports-Themed Dance, having a Ball.” Students will perform their improvised dance sequences in front of the class in small groups.
Students across all year levels will practice mirroring dance techniques with a partner and small groups. The students will be singing songs from Music is Fun, including, We Built This City, Kung Foo Fighting and FunkyTown and the students will dance to choreographed dance sequences to the songs.
Japanese
The students have been learning about Golden Week in Japan and the four public holidays that make up that week. They have focussed on Children’s Day which is the last day of Golden Week and discussed the significance of the koi fish, kites and samurai that are displayed during Children’s Day.
Science
The focus for this term is Chemical Science where students will be focusing on materials and their properties, as well as states of matter (solids, liquids and gasses).
Foundation and year 1 students, have begun learning about different objects in the school environment and their observable properties. Year 2 students have started the term physically changing everyday materials and recording their observations and findings in a variety of ways.
Year 3 students have been participating in a variety of investigations to develop an understanding of solids and liquids, focusing on their unique properties and structure.
Year 4 students have begun investigating the properties of materials and how these determine a material's use.
Year 5 and 6 students have begun developing an understanding of reversible and irreversible changes to solids, liquids and gasses through various investigations and experiments.
Physical Education (PE)
In PE junior primary classes are focusing on balance. They have been doing core exercises and balance activities.
The primary classes have been playing modified European Handball with the lower primary developing their game skills and the upper primary implementing game strategies.

IBL
Year 2 classes are creating book trailers to encourage an audience to read the Pig the Pug series of books. They are exploring ways of using media technologies to capture and organise text, images, sounds and animations.
