Weekly Gospel Reflection

Matthew 28:16-20

Jesus sends forth the apostles with the promise to be with them always.

In this week's Gospel, we encounter a glimpse of Jesus' time on Earth after His resurrection. He appears to His disciples on a mountain in Galilee and approaches them with the 'Great Commission,' instructing them to go out and make disciples of all nations. Jesus emphasizes the importance of baptizing new believers in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey His teachings. He reassures them of His continuous presence, promising to be with them until the end of time. At school, we encourage our students to explore their faith through the 'see, judge, act' approach. This approach involves identifying a need, assessing how we can help, and taking action.

Unfortunately, the final step of taking action is often overlooked. How often do we pass by a homeless person without offering support? Or drive past a stranded motorist because we're in a hurry? Or neglect to volunteer our time after work? We must reflect on these missed opportunities to act with compassion. Many of us are familiar with the story of the Good Samaritan, where a man is injured by the roadside and the High Priest and Levite pass by before a Samaritan comes to his aid. Perhaps we should exercise more empathy towards the High Priest and Levite before hastily judging them. This story serves as a reminder for us to demonstrate Christ's love and truth in our daily lives. We are called to embody Jesus' character by displaying kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.

Furthermore, Jesus' commissioning encourages us to live our lives in community, surrounded by others who offer support and hold us accountable to become the best versions of ourselves.

On Friday, the 5/6 F class has organized their Class Mass around the theme of the Holy Family, in commemoration of Mother's Day and International Family Week. This theme is a fitting connection to this week's Gospel, as the Holy Family serves as an exemplary role model for us to emulate. The humble Joseph, as Jesus' stepfather, and the nurturing Mary inspire us with their devotion and love.

This week, we are challenged to live out Christ's mission. We can start by offering a listening ear to someone who may be feeling down, extending a helping hand to those in need, sharing something with someone who needs it, or praying for others.Remember, it is through small, consistent actions of love and compassion that we can have a significant impact on the world around us. Each step, no matter how small, contributes to a more compassionate and Christ-centered way of life.

Gracious and Loving God,

Father, we ask for the grace to see the needs of others with compassionate eyes, just as Jesus did. Open our hearts to the marginalized, the broken, and the lost, that we may offer them love, support, and a listening ear. May our actions reflect Your kindness and compassion, drawing others closer to You.

Guide us, Holy Spirit, as we seek to embody the character of Jesus. Teach us to be patient, forgiving, and humble in our interactions. Help us to prioritize unity and community, surrounding ourselves with fellow believers who uplift and challenge us to grow in faith.

Lord, we pray for our families and loved ones, that we may be a living witness of Your love and truth within our own homes. Strengthen the bonds of love, understanding, and forgiveness among us, following the example of the Holy Family.
