Year Four

Dear Year Four Families,

The term is fast approaching to an end, with only a few more weeks to go. Students are continuing their learning with our third Unit of Inquiry.

Unit of Inquiry

Students have been investigating our line of inquiry into health messages. They have been studying different advertisements to identify the messages within and their purpose. Students are exploring the messages surrounding physical, mental and emotional health.

Reading

Within Reading students have been practising the skill of noting the main idea and supporting details of a text. They have used different forms of texts and recorded these details. Students have continued to consolidate their understanding of non-fiction texts and their features. They have specifically examined diagrams, labels, captions, photographs, headings and sub-headings.

Writing

In Writing, students have been studying different forms of information texts. They have made comparisons between the different author's purpose, it's as easy as PIE (persuade, inform, entertain). Students have begun to research into mental health and wellbeing. They have developed their research skills by identifying the keywords within a text and recording the important details. Using this research students will sort and categorise the information to form their information report.

Mathematics

Year Four is investigating time in Mathematics. Students are learning some of the concepts such as, telling time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to'. They are also learning to tell time to the minute and investigating the relationship between units of time. Some students are also learning to convert between the units of time using 'am' and 'pm' notation to solve simple time problems.
