"The Inventions of Hugo Cabret" written by Brian Selznick is a mystery story of a 12/13-year-old boy Hugo Cabret in 1930s Paris, France. Hugo works as an apprentice for his uncle, a clock mechanic, the two of them fixing clocks together every day and night until his uncle disappears without a trace. This book includes various illustrations through the novel. The book itself is quite long but successfully manages to grab the reader's attention and keep anyone reading, which is why I'd highly recommend it for anyone, including people like me who have a hard time concentrating.
"Heart Stopper" by Alice Oseman is a popular graphic novel, a realistic-fiction story taking place in current day Great Britain. The story follows a teen named Charlie Spring, a 15-year-old exploring his sexuality when he meets a new friend, Nick Nelson. The graphic novel series follows the two boys through their romance, love and drama included, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the romance genre due to its addictive story. It's a short read with the series spanning over four books, though a warning for possible triggers as the books cover topics such as emotional abuse, sexual harassment, homophobia, eating disorders, anorexia, self-harm, and various mental health issues.
Featured Books
An exciting addition to our library, the publisher describes The Rattle Bag as: “A collection of the editor’s own favourite poems, the Rattle Bag is now a classic anthology of our time. Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes have brought together an inspired and diverse selection, from masterpieces to rare discoveries, as well as works in translation and traditional poems from oral cultures. This anthology has transformed the way we define and appreciate poetry”.
Our library also features the companion to The Rattle Bag, The School Bag. The publisher describes The School Bag as “an engaging and authoritative selection of poetry for the classroom. Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes have chosen an eclectic range of poets read in today’s schools, but also those poems that the editors themselves read at school, or those from which they learned the most. The School Bag is an important book for any student of poetry”.
