VET in Action - Ludi R (Year 11)

My name is Ludi, I'm a Year 11 student completing the Vocational Major. I am currently studying hairdressing and doing a school-based apprenticeship. I have been going to TAFE on Wednesdays and to my workplace on Thursdays. I am working at Tok Hair Studio in Beaumaris with Liz and Rachel who have been nothing but supportive and patient with me. They take time to teach me things and allow me to practice until I'm confident.

I am learning how to do blowdrys and toners at the moment; washing the client's hair, drying their hair using different techniques and styling at the end. With toner, I mix up colour which gets applied to the hair after being coloured to achieve the desired result. This could mean removing yellow/orange tones and altering it to a cooler tone. Some styles I've been doing recently are waves, curls, 90's blow out, pin curls and smoothing. I have to tailor my technique depending on the client's desires as well as using products that will benefit their hair.

I have the opportunity to bring models into the salon and blowdry their hair, but have struggled finding people available at the times that I need. I have a hair account on instagram called @hairbyludi where I post my work as well as posting times that I am looking for a model.

Did you know that Beaumaris Secondary College has a school Careers website which students will use throughout their secondary school education? This site has a student portal where they can access resources such as their Career Action Plan, e-Portfolio, Skills and Abilities Evaluation and Career Investigator. Students also use the site to develop their resume and cover letter. The site contains information regarding pathways for VCE Studies and opportunities beyond school.

A Day at Melbourne

Year 11 and 12 students are invited to experience a taste of university life by joining us at our Parkville campus for A Day at Melbourne.

Throughout the day students will have the chance to take part in two areas of study workshops of their choosing, sit in on a panel of current students to hear about their experiences, speak to staff one-on-one about their study interests, discover the broad range of student clubs and societies, and participate in student accommodation tours.

UNSW Co-op Program 2024

Set up by industry and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) the Co-op Program provides career development scholarships for high achieving undergraduate students, offering industry training, leadership, and professional development, networking opportunities, mentoring and financial support. The scholarships are offered in the fields of Business, Science, and Engineering.

The UNSW Co-op Program is open to Year 12 students entering university for the first time, or those commencing university for the first time after a gap year.
