Open Night

We had a terrific night on Tuesday at our annual Open Night for Education Week. MAKE! MOVE! MOTIVATE! is the theme for this year’s Education Week. We had many activities that students were engaged in across the school. Our PFA organised a Sausage Sizzle, and Tina ran the canteen for us on the night, which was a big success. Alison organised a logo puzzle for children to complete as they went around to each activity. Our school leaders were our greeters for the evening, and families had lots of fun doing yoga, dancing, making crafty things, AI games and playing with our robots as well.

Thank you for supporting our school and your children during Education Week. We hope to see many families here tomorrow for Open Morning, where we invite Grandparents and Special Friends to come into school and share a morning with us. Don’t forget your BYO picnic!

Sickness And Illness

These past few weeks have seen the colder weather return, and this also brings us into the cough, colds and flu season. We have had many children who are unwell, and there is a wave of Coronavirus going through our community as well.

We encourage you to keep unwell children home, as this helps prevent germs and viruses transferring to other children and staff. If your child has COVID it is strongly recommended by the Department of Education that the child isolate at home for 5 days once they have tested positive. We appreciate you assisting us with this and following the recommendations. We know that children sometimes have mild symptoms and teachers are happy to send work home for students on request.

In the classrooms we are continuing with the hygienic processes we put in place during COIVD times. Hand sanitiser, air purifiers, windows open and access to fresh air when possible are all measures to ensure the classroom environment is as free of germs as possible.

Tomorrow we are sending home a RA test with every child so that you can have easy access to them. We also have a number of masks available in kids sizes and adult sizes; if you need any please ask at the school office. Masks are a measure that really assist in stopping the spread of cold, flu and COIVD.

2024 Enrolments

We are now taking enrolment applications for 2024. If you have a four-year-old starting with us in 2024, you can pick up an enrolment form at the school office or download one from our school website. If you know of anyone who is enrolling at Scoresby PS next year, please encourage them to enrol this term.

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday, our Student Leaders led us in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), which is an annual event held by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. NSS is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes. This year's book was The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Yong and Illustrated by Heath McKenzie.

National Sorry Day

On Friday at assembly we will be acknowledging National Sorry Day. Every year on 26th May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’.

National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation.

Our students will learn more about this important day and watch a short video explaining the importance of the day.

The Fathering Project Launch – Wednesday 7 June

As part of increasing our Wellbeing programs at Scoresby Primary School, we have joined The Fathering Project. We are launching this at our Breakfast Club on Wednesday 7th June with a 'Bricks and Brekky' event. We are encouraging as many dads, carers and/or father figures to come along and have a toastie with your child while building Lego.

We are hoping we can get as many dad’s/father figures as possible along to this event and to join up to the SPS Fathering Project.

What is The Fathering Project?

The Fathering Project recognises that fathers, and father figures, play a vital role in children’s lives. The evidence demonstrating fathers’ potential to positively influence their children’s health and mental health, social success and academic achievements is now robust, indisputable, and compelling.

We will be looking at holding Dads Only events for fathers and father figures, Dads and Kids events, and at-home activities that you can do with your child.
