Sport Update

Senior/Junior Girls SSV

On the 17th of May students from Years 7-12 represented the school for Aussie Rules SSV. Our Senior team was made up of students from 9-12 and our Juniors from Years 7 and 8, their first experience representing the school.

In lovely Autumn weather we all travelled down to Airport West FC to play in a round robin tournament against two other schools, Sunshine and Springside College. A late scratching on the morning of the event, meant there would be only one game to play against Sunshine for our Senior Girls. We extended the game from 2 x 20 halves to 4 x 15 quarters to allow for more game time for the girls.

Our girls were fantastic to watch. They moved the ball well, shared the footy around and kicked some fantastic goals. More importantly they celebrated every bit of success that we had along the way. The scores were very much in our favour with the Senior Girls going on to win by 190 points. We were very proud of the result, but prouder about the way our girls conducted themselves, offering advice and feedback to the opposition and helping them play the game. The Senior Girls will now advance to the next round of games and into a Divisional Final.

Unfortunately, for our Junior Girls Springside West, the other school in the tournament were late withdrawals the night before, meaning our Junior Girls would not play in a structured game. They do however advance to the next round of Divisional games. The day would not be wasted with this news though. After the Senior Girls finished their game, refuelled and recharged, students from Years 7-12 made the most of the lovely conditions and mixed up the teams and played a game against each other. The unstructured, but very fast paced game saw students from Year 7 interacting and engaging with Year 12s, sharing success on the field, and creating connections that are usually very hard to do inside school hours. The younger students certainly appreciated the care and support from the Senior Girls and the Senior Girls were impressed by the talent on display from their younger counterparts.

Overall, a great day of footy and we look forward to watching our students show their talents again in the Divisional Finals.
