Reconciliation Week - Wear it Yellow – Friday 2nd June
As part of our National Reconciliation Week this year, on Friday 2nd June we are encouraging all students and teachers to take part in a yellow-themed casual dress day to raise funds for a First Nations organisation, Children’s Ground. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2023 is ‘Be a voice for generations.’ This theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and play. That is why our school has chosen to participate in Children’s Ground’s ‘Wear It Yellow’ day. As part of ‘Wear It Yellow Day’, students will engage with National Reconciliation Week learning materials and have vibrant discussions about First Nations culture and history. This also ties in with our inquiry topic this term. We remind students and teachers who take part to bring a gold coin donation. Families can also make a further donation to Children’s Ground via this link https://wearityellow.org.au/macedon-primary-school you can search for our school to add to our contribution, we have set a fundraising target of $1000. Trivia Night
We would like to extend our gratitude to all those who volunteered time and energy to set up and host the incredibly fun and entertaining trivia night for our primary school parent community. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets and joined in the fun. The evening a resounding success, and we are appreciative of your efforts. Thanks Bushy, Blake, Samara, Mel, Briohny, Deb, Emma and Salina and to anyone else who I have missed.
Julie Monk, our school council president, led the charge on this community event. Thanks for your leadership and volunteer hours Julie. We raised over $2400 to contribute to the eco-shed power connection project. While the fundraising result is very pleasing, the community building aspects of the event were equally as beneficial and important to us. We hope you had fun!
We are looking forward to our next community event; the Winter Solstice on the Friday the 16th of June, we’re keen to keep the to keep the good vibes rolling. If you had fun at the trivia night and are wondering how you can get involved and support us, we need helpers with the following on the Winter Solstice night.
- A team to cook and sell sausages at the eco shed
- Selling cakes, soup and pizza in the eco shed
- Supporting the pizza making process
- Cleaning cups throughout the event.
- End of event pack up of the eco shed.
- Supporting the fire safety around the bon fire.
It would be great to come and join the team putting on this amazing winter solstice event.
