Art Update

This week in Visual Art it is all systems GO to prepare our displays for the Winter Solstice Exhibition. Foundation students finished some adorable mixed media monster and bird pictures. Grade one and two students continued their leaf collages; inspired by the amazing work of the late Indigenous artist, Gloria Petyarre and her ‘Medicine Leaves’ series. Our study of Gloria Petyarre supports the wonderful classroom Inquiry focused on Indigenous Australia this term. Here are some photos of 1/2TT finishing their Medicine Leaves collages this week. Grades three to six have continued their explorations with paint, branching off into watercolour painting. We have seen the emergence of a real interest in abstract painting among our senior students with some exciting results. Watch this space!
With the Solstice Exhibition rapidly approaching students have been repeatedly invited to contribute anything they feel they might like to exhibit. However, we have a strong passion for allowing students to feel that they have control over their choices in Art. They have a broad range of mediums and equipment on offer to explore with each lesson and the creation of finished products is not a strong priority. No student’s work is shared without their permission. Therefore, it is possible that your child or children may not have a piece of art on display at the exhibition. Do check with your child if they have chosen to exhibit any pieces.
