Music News
On Friday 19th May, Jazz Syndicate performed at the Rotary Club of Geelong’s ‘Jazz Swings’ 2: in the Mood for Mental Health event at Geelong West Town Hall/ The Band played with great enthusiasm and skill, and received many compliments from the large audience. They stayed for the finale item performance of ‘In the Mood’, playing alongside some of Geelong’s best jazz musicians. Many thanks to Sandra Coulson for assistance with supervision at the event.
Last Saturday excited BHS students performed as part of the pre- game entertainment at the Sir Doug Nicholls Round at GMHBA stadium, at the Cats vs GWS game. They backed Budjerah, a Coodjinburra man from the Bundjalung nation, as part of a 50 voice Geelong Schools Choir. This was a wonderful experience for our students, and Budjerah was very supportive of all the students, making time to congratulate each one as they left the stage after their performance. Congratulations to Lucy Tuck, Ben Leak, Abigail Hodge McAvaney, Charli Germain, Bella Ng, Alex Fisk and Lucy for taking this opportunity and running with it!
The Addams family band was amazing!!! So many rehearsals paid off in a great show. Big thanks to Keith Busbridge, Abbie Burton, Allison Hollins, Frank Huang, Michael Wilding, Pat Consedine, Harry Whelan, Oscar Waring and Emma Moffat for their incredible efforts.
Didjeribone Incursion
Last Tuesday Year 7+8 students participated in the Didjeribone incursion, with a fabulous performance by Tjupurru, who quickly had students greeting him and responding to his questions in the language of his ancestors the Djabera Djabera people from the Kimberly region of WA. Tjupurru wove his personal story of being part of the stolen generation through his performance, and of how music helped to re -connect with his heritage. Students were part of the performance, learning about looping technology through forming a ‘human instrument’, while two students played the instrument. This incursion represented the spirit of Reconciliation week, a ‘Voice for change’, and complemented the BHS Reconciliation week activities happening across the school. Tjupurru loved our student created STAYDEADLY stickers, and they went straight onto his road cases as a permanent memento of BHS! Many thanks to all the BHS staff for accommodating this incursion during a busy week.
