Wellbeing Support

Wellbeing Support for Students:

Our Year 11 Youth Ministry class created profiles of Indigenous Australians people this week to celebrate Reconciliation week. The students were given the opportunity to examine the purpose of Reconciliation Week and why the week was important. They then engaged in fruitful discussion of the importance of giving Indigenous Australians a voice.

The posters detail the achievements Indigenous Australians who have made a significant contribution to Australian society. The students outlined their achievements, which ‘country’ they belonged to and the ways that they advocated for Aboriginal culture. The Youth Ministry students took a lot of ownership for these posters as they knew these would be displayed around the College.

As Youth Ministry students of St Peter’s College, we have been taught about the importance of the custodians of the land. The project we conducted in class has given us a better understanding of the struggle the native population has had in regaining their rights. Learning this has helped us learn the true struggles that they had to go through and helped us be better informed.
