St Peter’s Feast Day and its celebration at the College

Did you know that St. Peter has no specific Feast Day? He shares one with St. Paul on June 29th.

According to sources both saints died on the same day, several years apart. This is hard to substantiate but it has been Catholic tradition for over 1800 years. There is also a Feast called the Chair of St. Peter which is celebrated on January 18th in the Roman Catholic Church.

In the early days of St. Peter’s College, it was decided that the College should be able to celebrate its identity and its patron saint. The last Tuesday of Term II was chosen as it was close to the Feast of St. Peter and Paul and was easy to remember.

On a cold winter’s day, students, staff, and parents may ask: Why not change to a day when the weather may be better? The significance of the date is important. We do not change our own birthdays or anniversaries; we do not change Christmas or New Year.

St. Peter’s Day has traditionally commenced with a Mass in honour of St. Peter. This is usually followed by activities including St. Peter’s Got Talent which highlights the talents of many of the students.

In the early years of the College, Mass was celebrated at St. Agatha’s Church as there was no Multi-Purpose Hall. When the hall was completed on the Cranbourne campus, it was able to be used for Mass, in time, for both campuses. In 2018, the whole college community, Cranbourne and Clyde North Campuses, celebrated Mass at the Casey Basketball Stadium. This was the only venue that could accommodate the increased number of students enrolled at St. Peter’s College. It was a memorable occasion.

The continued growth of the student population has led to a return of the Mass to ‘home’ campuses. This means the Multi-Purpose Hall for the Cranbourne campus and a live stream from the Lyons building for the Clyde North campus. These two vital celebrations set a joyful tone for a day when the College community celebrates the life and legacy of our patron, St Peter.

VCE Dance & Music Students Excursion

The VCE Dance and Music students from both Cranbourne and Clyde North campus were lucky enough to attend a matinee performance of the award winning show & Juliet on Wednesday the 10th of May. & Juliet is currently on at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne and the story focuses on a "what if" scenario, where Juliet does not die at the end of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and gets a second chance at life and love - on her terms. The musical celebrates diversity and inclusion whilst using smash hit pop songs.

For many of our students it was their first time seeing a professional musical on stage. They described & Juliet as ‘refreshing’, ‘modern’, ‘majestic’, ‘inclusive’, ‘captivating’ and ‘quirky’.

Moonlit Sanctuary

The popular Keeper Club Holiday Program will be running again at Moonlit Sanctuary over the Autumn school holidays. We hope you are still able to assist us with advertising this in return for a complimentary family pass to help with your fundraising activities.

If you’re not familiar with us, Moonlit Sanctuary is a Wildlife Conservation Park located in Pearcedale. It is a place where people can experience the rare and unusual animals that call Australia home.  We are committed to raising awareness and educating people about these wonderful creatures and the need for their conservation.

One of the educational programs we offer is our Keeper Club School Holiday Program. This is run by our Education Officers and offers children hands-on experience with environmental activities, animal encounters and native animal care. They learn about our animals, their conservation and the environment, all with a focus on fun!

We operate without government support and are entirely dependent on funds raised to support our work. The income from our holiday program and visits to the Sanctuary in general help support our conservation, breeding and education programs. Thanking you for your help.

Cert II Hospitality Clyde North

Incursion at St Peter’s College, Clyde North

Students undertaking Certificate II in Hospitality welcomed Sous Vide expert Dale Prentice to show us the techniques of cooking food in a regulated temperature water bath.

Dale Prentice is the director of Sous Vide Australia and has more than 22 years of experience as a chef in some of Victoria's best restaurants.

The menu consisted of

Salmon entrée.

Chicken breast, potato mash and honey carrots

Crème caramel

Not only is the method easy, but the food also holds more nutrients than the traditional methods of cookery. The taste and texture of the foods were amazing!
