YEAR 9 GEOGRAPHY TRIP TO SOUTH MELBOURNE MARKET

On Friday 18 March, three classes from Year 9 visited the South Melbourne Market to investigate the concept of farm to fork. All day, we went around South Melbourne Market surveying people whilst simultaneously enjoying the wonderful atmosphere, and the extremely delicious food. The juices were especially good.

We would look at what customers bought, the purpose of their visit, and how often they would come to shop. We also looked at the products sold at the market, their prices and where they were made. This helped us understand the way in which trade is beneficial to people, and how it can help small businesses.

We were able to have a better understanding of how Australian citizens spend their time and money at the South Melbourne Market. Going to the South Melbourne Market was an incredible experience that no one will forget. Being able to go up to different people and ask about why they are at the Market was a fascinating way to gain a better understanding of how people in Australia come across their food and materials.

I know that if you ask any of the Year 9s that have been on this wonderful trip, they would be willing to come back to the South Melbourne Market in a heartbeat.

Overall, this was an enlightening experience, which led us to understand more about trade and the variety of products, and cultures, to which Australia is privy to.
