22 - PHILLIP ISLAND

Before we left, I was feeling kind of nervous but I was also very excited to meet new people in our cabins and activity groups.

Everyone arrived at school to gather in the hall. Mountains of sleeping bags, all the colours of the rainbow: green, blue, purple and even glitter, were spread across the polished wooden floor.

The bus journey was long, well, maybe only for me. I saw a couple of groups playing UNO, some students randomly sang, while others were sleeping.

I have had some bad experiences in camps and cabins. So I was pleasantly surprised, when I found the bunk beds and pool to be sparkling clean. The meals were not to my complete liking, but the best one was definitely the dinner on Day 2. I love chicken schnitzel and fries!

More highlights included the talent show, which was amazing. Every performer did a great job, even those who were just up there laughing. We also experienced the giant swing, which I was too afraid to try, but I was satisfied to watch others pull the rope to dislodge and freefall from an 18 metre height.

My favourite activity to witness was surfing lessons. I enjoyed hanging around the beautiful beach, feeling the cool water running over our toes and picking up beautiful seashells. We even used our hands to draw “MCK Y7 CAMP 2022” on the sand along with some cute characters!

Overall, it was such a great experience to start off Year 7.  We got to make some new friends and create more memories with familiar ones. Everyone cooperated well, and everyone enjoyed it a lot.  I can’t wait for the next camp!
