From the Principal

"Slip slidin' away Slip slidin' away You know the nearer your destination,

The more you're slip slidin' away"

The Paul Simon song was on repeat in my head as we slimed, slipped and sloshed through the Slime fun run last Tuesday.

What a wonderful and joyous experience it was for all of our community. It brought back distant memories of the life we had before the pandemic, but also reminded us of the exciting possibilities for the future.

There were reports of a strange character with a colorful wig and a green top causing chaos chasing children and staff around the oval. One of our parents Craig Hill made sure that the slime monster was punished with a full bucket of slime tipped over her. All for a great cause!

Fundraising Gurus.....

We are incredibly lucky to have so many parents that volunteer their time to ensure fundraising events like the Slime run are possible. Without the efforts of our Fundraising Committee members, we would not be able to provide these experiences for our students.

On this note, it is nearly time to farewell one of our long standing Fundraising Committee members, Gaby Witherspoon.

Gaby has been part of the Great Ryrie Community for 13 years and is about to watch her third son Felix graduate. She has been instrumental in organising so many successful events. She is known for her flair in decorating, always ensuring plenty of fairy lights at all events. I’m sure she will not let down the Class of 2021, and will decorate the Sports and Performance Centre in a spectacular fashion for Graduation. Most recently, Gaby has organised the Mother’s Day stall and her legacy will ensure the biannual ‘Girl’s Night’ and ‘Trivia Night’ continue into the future.

Gaby, thank you for your dedication to fundraising and the Great Ryrie community. We will miss you at Fundraising Meetings and hope to see you at our next ‘Girl’s Night’.

Kylie Carlton, our Parents and Friends President, and Melissa are always looking for parents to assist with the Fundraising Committee.

Please do not be shy about approaching them if you would like to assist or join the team. Just a reminder it will be Fete year in 2022 and we have so many events planned to enable our community to once again be part of the school.

School Review

As previously mentioned, Great Ryrie Primary School has been working through a School Review. All schools must participate in a school review every 4 years.

Currently, the school review provides assurance of ongoing compliance with the minimum requirements for school registration and informs the development of the school's 4 year School Strategic Plan (SSP).

The Fieldwork day looked at the school's proficiency status against the FISO continuum for School Improvement. There were combinations of parent, student and staff focus groups, classroom observations were conducted across the school and feedback was given to the school leadership team.

On Thursday, we had our final day with a panel of Principals, regional staff and our School Council President Richard Bailey. Together we worked towards setting new targets and key improvement strategies which will be the focus for the next 4 years.

I look forward to sharing the final outcomes with the school community next year. We are extremely proud of our achievements during a challenging 2 years and embrace the new goals and targets set.

Enjoy your weekend
