Maths, Confirmation Retreat and Religion

SLC has been studying how simple and complex 3D shapes are made by using nets. We brainstormed as a class a range of simple and complex 3D shapes and studied exactly how to make these nets ourselves and how to make them into 3D shapes. We used a lot of trial and error but eventually we understood how these nets may look silly but create 3D shapes. After doing all the hard work it was time to actually make these nets and shapes which was the fun part but was also very challenging because we had to be precise with our measurements and made sure certain parts were equal or twice as big as another part of the shape.

Recently, SLC went up to the Don Bosco Centre in Lysterfield for our Confirmation Retreat which is a spiritual experience where the students participated in a range of activities about Confirmation.

We also took part in many prayers, especially about gratitude and to help others. This experience not only was a time to get ready for Confirmation but it was a time to reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit that we see in ourselves and those around us.

We also got to read beautiful letters that were written to us by our parents, which was a very reflective and emotional time as maybe we didn’t know how the most important people in our lives see us or how much they love us.

SLC has been learning about Advent in particular the start of Advent. We discussed the Gospel that was for last Sunday which was Luke 21: 25-28; 34-36. This Gospel was about the foreshadowing of the birth of Jesus. It talked about how the stars, sun and moon can give off signs that something is coming. We discussed how the sun, stars and moon in other stories have shown signs like in the Christmas story, where the three wise men followed a star to where Jesus was born. As an activity we drew stars, the sun or the moon and wrote a prayer specifically what we are thankful for during the time of Advent.

Kind Regards
