Dear Families

Our School Community Back Together

It has been wonderful to see and hear all students back in our classrooms and on our playgrounds again this week.  Students were warmly welcomed by staff on Wednesday with ‘red carpet’ treatment with a bubble machine, a welcome sign and plenty of smiles, (see the Wellbeing Page for more photos).

It didn’t take long for the typical school routines to fall into place with morning prayer and reflections starting the day for students.  Following that, there were learning activities that create the typical classroom buzz and distinctive atmosphere that all teachers and learning support officers have been looking forward to, as opposed to the remoteness of online lessons via a screen.  I know our students have really enjoyed seeing their friends and classmates too.

As the weeks progress towards the end of the school year, we are looking forward to some of the usual school and community events that mark our calendars at this time of year.  Next Wednesday we will welcome our 2022 Foundation students and parents for their first orientation session.  It is great that we can have them onsite to see our school and to welcome them in person, so they can experience OLHC’s friendly community spirit.

We are also looking forward to some of the special school events that we have missed over the last year and a half.  The juniors will have swimming lessons commencing on Friday November 19, the Year 5/6s have camp November 16-18 and we are planning for Year 6 Graduation and other end of year celebrations.  As we determine the details and COVID safe practices required for any community events, we will communicate them to you so you can add them to your calendar.  As a new member of the school community I am excited by the prospect of seeing people gather to participate in these events and to meet you in person.

HOT DOG Monday!

To help celebrate our students being back together again, staff wanted them to enjoy a hot dog, drink and piece of fruit on Monday at lunch time.  This will be at no cost to families and will be a fun way to start the week.  If your child has dietary considerations that we need to know about, please contact Liz in the office so we can update our files.  Thanks to Denise in the tuck shop for organising and preparing this special treat for our students.

Warm regards

Patrick Green
