Principal

From Ms Allison

The days and weeks are rushing by and in the busyness of the upcoming festive season, we often forget to thank people around us so, I would like to extend my gratitude to our staff, students, and families for supporting Ringwood Secondary College in 2021. Without this collective effort, the positive provision of opportunities for our students would certainly diminish. I do hope that in 2022 our college community continues to foster creative talent and the growth of flourishing, thriving individuals.

The 2021 Year 12 Class gathered last week for their Valedictory evening to celebrate their achievements including academic, co-curricula and leadership awards via the live stream. It was a mild warm night with students gathering around food trucks to enjoy the evening. A reminder that VCE and VCAL results will be released on December 16th, and I look forward to celebrating these results with our students. I do wish all our year 12 graduates a successful future as they embark on their life adventures.

The Visual Arts and Technology staff have created a magnificent virtual display for our annual Art and Technology Exhibition, to showcase student’s skills and talents from a wide range of the Arts and Technology subjects such as: Art, Studio Arts, Visual Communication Design (VCD), Media, Photography, Textiles, Wood, Food Technology, Materials, CAD and Digitech. Please enjoy the exhibition and ensure that you view Kaila Bergmann’s Year 12 VCD School Assessed Task folio that has been shortlisted by VCAA for the 2022 Seasons of Excellence ‘Top Designs ‘exhibition.

Five Ringwood Secondary College students embarked on leadership journey facilitated by Maroondah City Council (MCC) Childhood and Youth Services that focussed on leadership using a strength-based approach. As members of a Student Wellbeing Action Team (SWAT)

Niharika Harne, Laura Pe, Jackson Smith, Abbey Whittacker and Alyssa Solidaga                 displayed great courage and perseverance to develop their leadership skills to create positive change. Embracing this challenge, they mentored peers and younger students, developed a wellbeing project showing innovative and creative approaches and were awarded the MCC ‘Impact Award’. Congratulations to these courageous young people and thank you to MCC, parents and carers for their support.

Over the next few weeks various important events will be held, including the Junior and Middle School Awards ceremony to celebrate student achievement, Orientation Day which heralds the arrival of our 2022 year 7’s, the Prefects camp for leadership team training, Year 11 VCE/VCAL transition, our end of year Music Concert and finally the long awaited senior musical production ‘Grease’ opening on December 4th.

Parent groups, together with RSC staff, include Facilities, Spare Parts, PCTA, and Music Association (MA) all provide exemplary support for our students and staff. Special thanks to all parent helpers including Sharmi Cottin who has served on the Music Association for over eight years, diligently overseeing the fundraising efforts to ensure that monies raised provided extra musical instruments for student use.

As another month closes, I wonder about the speed of time flying by. So, think carefully about your future and contemplate the ‘five steps forward’ by Cam Greenwood, founder of Monsta Surf as a guide.

1.Set your compass

2.Pack lightly

3.Step out

4.Expect storms

5.Keep moving

Important Announcement from the College Council President

Hello to all in the Ringwood Secondary College Community.

I am writing to announce, on behalf of the College Council, that the Principal Selection Panel has made the recommendation that there be a "No Appointment" for the recently advertised position of Principal at Ringwood Secondary College.

The College Council met with SEIL Kerrie Anderson from the Region on Tuesday night, and voted to approve the Panels recommendation of a "No Appointment".

The Region will recommence the Principal Selection Process early in Term 1 next year, and intends to advertise the position with a much wider scope.

The Region staff and the College Council are optimistic that the process will be successful in appointing a new Principal for the College.

Maria Allison will remain as Acting Principal until the end of Term 1 2022.
