Senior School Happenings

Our Senior Students have been finished for the last couple of weeks now. I would like to commend each and every one of them on their dedication and enthusiasm during the Head Start period and how they embraced their work, stepping into their next year of school. They really stepped up, worked hard and showed what they are capable of. 2021 will hopefully be a big year for all of them, with lots of work to do and less Remote Learning (fingers crossed!).

Over the break, the senior students still have work that they need to complete for their subjects, so some time should be allocated to this over the time off school. As senior students, this is a requirement for them so that things keep ticking over until they are back at the start of 2021 and I urge all parents/guardians to encourage their child(ren) to get this done.

It is a little bittersweet writing this, as it will be my last report for a while. I am off on Maternity Leave next year and am expecting a baby (any time now!) and so there will be a new Head of Senior Pathways for 2021.

I wish all the Senior Students – VCE and VCAL – all the very best and I hope that they will work hard to achieve everything they are wishing for in their future. I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to play a small part in shaping their futures and I look forward to seeing where they end up in their journey beyond Edenhope College.

Advance Camp

During Week 10, the Advance class took part in one of their Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Camps as well as a Celebration Day for all their hard work in Advance over what has been such a difficult year.

The camp begin with a 16 kilometre hike through scrub and around the town of Edenhope with fully loaded backpacks, which all students completed. The students demonstrated hard work and resilience and although there were some tired legs and sore feet, the class then pitched their tents and got ready for their night's camp.

The class cooked their delicious, filling dinners for the night on Trangias before getting rid of any energy they had left in the Swimming Pool. A few games of Volleyball and a ghost story later it was time for a well earned sleep.

After a less than desirable sleep, the students were up, eating breakfast and packing up their tents before embarking on yet another walk. This time without backpacks and only 6km which was a fabulous way to start the day.

Having completed these requirements of the camp, the students then jumped on the bus and headed for Horsham where they had the day celebrating with Ten Pin Bowling and a delicious lunch at Moes.

The boys mastered their bowling technique and after a few hours worth of games, the overall winners were; 1. Jaali, 2. Braithan and 3. Brock all with scores well over 100 for 10 games. Great effort.

Well done to all Advance members who participated in this Camp - they all gave it their all and should be proud of their accomplishments.

VCAL Numeracy

VCAL students are developing numeracy skills and showing learning growth through hands-on learning. The purpose of this course is for students to develop their learning in the classroom through different activities with or without the use of technology and will develop numeracy skills further through consistent application to relevant practical, personal and work-related contexts and linking their numeracy skills with other learning outcomes. Our students are demonstrating that they are on the right track. VCAL students are developing numeracy skills and showing learning growth through their hands-on learning.

Students are learning fractions through paper cut and being innovative to find the smallest fractions from A3 paper to compare to computer data bytes.

 Money Smart Kid Elective

In ‘Money Smart Kids,’ this year our students have focussed on income sources and spending money. They have focussed on setting goals for saving, preparing budget and making financial planning for increasing wealth and money. Students have learnt practically about the bank products and insurance products through visiting the local bank. They have developed knowledge and understanding on take home money after taxation with the analysis of Australian Tax Office, their savings and investment choices, investing in the share market or other places, safety caution on online banking or shopping to protect their money.

The Money Smart kids at Edenhope College went on a tour on Friday 11th December 2020 at the local Bendigo Bank to develop their knowledge on banking transactions, types of accounts suitable for personal or business accounts and other bank products. Thank you to the Bendigo Bank staff at the Edenhope branch.
