Acting Principal Report

We got there!!!!

Well done to everyone in the Edenhope College learning community! Throughout 2020, everyone has endured two remote learning phases and the uncertainty that went with it. Touch wood that is behind us.

Congratulations to all students who are graduating - the Year 6s leaving primary school and heading into secondary school in 2021 and the Year 12s who have navigated a school year like none of us have ever seen before. Goodbye to the families leaving the college, thank you for all your input over the years.

At the end of 2020 we say goodbye to a number of staff leaving. We wish Acting Assistant Principal for Term 4, Jen Altmann, all the best with her maternity leave and look forward to meeting the new addition to her family in 2021.

Edenhope College also says goodbye to Kat Neall who is moving to Shepparton, to Kara Shuttleworth who's heading over to the Yorke Peninsula, SA, Emma Ryan who's heading to Ballarat and Sarah Jude who's returning to Queensland and Nicky McKinnon.

We thank you all for your valuable contribution to Edenhope College - whether it be in the short or long term and wish you all the best for the future, wherever that takes you all!

Virtual Awards Night/Primary Concert

Thanks Varlin Duncan for the massive effort you’ve put in to set up the Edenhope College Virtual Awards night and the primary concert, they are definitely worth watching. A big thanks must also go to staff who went over and beyond in this area too - I must admit I did get a laugh out of seeing Mr Irvin suddenly grow a moustache in his second video! Finally congratulations goes to all award winners.

School Direction 2021 onwards

As a whole staff we have met and discussed the outcomes of 2020 and are looking forward to how we can support and engage students in 2021.

Our recent school review will give us direction to help with this. The department has announced ‘catch up’ initiatives (amongst already established academic support programs), to help students who have lost ground. This is targeted at not only students who have fallen behind their year level, but also excelling students who we will be looking to bring back up to speed.

Wellbeing programs to help instill resilience have also been targeted for rollout in 2021 and beyond. The college needs to celebrate its approach to the wellbeing of students over the last year, but also not relax and keep this strong focus as we move forward.

Staffing

In addition to the positions already filled for 2021, it's with great pleasure that I can announce our Term 1 Acting Assistant Principal.

Dean Greenhalgh was the successful applicant and joins us from Geelong. Dean has a passion for the trades, being a Woodwork/ Metal craft teacher as well as teaching Mathematics. Dean has been heavily involved with student pathways at his previous school, Grovedale Senior School and brings a lot of energy to his new role.

We will also welcome Federation University graduate George Walker to Edenhope College in 2021. George will teach VCE Health, Primary PE and Year 7 and 8 Mathematics.

Finally it is exciting with the quality of new ‘young’ staff that has been employed, blended with the quality of staffing present, that I look forward to 2021. I believe the students will only benefit from their enthusiasm and passion.
