Spoonville @ The Lakes

Spoonville at The Lakes

In the first lockdown students participated in the Rainbow Trail to spread some joy during testing times. During the second lockdown another creative craze started and was visible on the streets of many communities – brightly decorated wooden spoon characters! This started in the English village of Winnersh, then the fad spread across Britain, and became popular in Victoria in locations such as parks and nature strips. People are encouraged to decorate their own wooden spoon and add it to another by a street or verge, to make a Spoonville (a village or community of spoons).

All primary students were asked to create a spoon as a remote learning task and bring it into school when they returned. Students were encouraged to be inventive and resourceful by using materials around the home. These colourful, quirky, unique characters are displayed in the garden outside the admin building on the primary campus. A group of year 7 artists worked together to design and paint a sign to accompany our school display. Go and check it out or add to our school’s Spoonville!
