Secondary Sport

2020 has been a difficult year for students at The Lakes, particularly for our aspiring athletes who have been unable to compete in interschool sports throughout the academic year due to pandemic related restrictions regarding sport. However, during the month of November, our students received a brief but welcomed taste of competition in the form of an intraschool, mixed gender, multi-sport tournament organised by the HPE team and held weekly at lunchtimes in the secondary campus gymnasium.

Approximately one hundred students across three divisions (6, 7/8, 9/10) were involved in the selected sports throughout the four weeks with teams representing every year level at the secondary campus. Students were tasked with organising and registering their teams in order to participate in the weekly events. The four-week, round robin tournament saw students compete in Dodgeball, European Handball, Futsal and Basketball; these sports being selected by students though an online survey. The competition gave students a great opportunity to reconnect with their peers and to re engage in regular physical activity after an extended period of lockdown and remote learning.

It has been an absolute privilege to see such great participation, teamwork and inclusion demonstrated by our students, both on and off the court over the past few weeks.  Congratulations to the teams who won their respective divisions and a big thanks  to all the students and staff involved and their contributions in making this event such a success.

We very much look forward to sharing more stories of our students’ sporting achievements in 2021!

Stay active.
