Year 5 Indigenous Games - Yulunga

NAIDOC Week - Indigenous Games

This week students participated in a range of Traditional Indigenous Games that were played in Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies. The activities are a mix of traditional pastimes along with some more ‘modern’ elements. The games that students participated in are from the resource ‘Yulanga – Traditional Indigenous Games ausport.gov.au.’ Games and activities in this resource are based on extensive research, including several hundred accounts collected over many years from all parts of Australia and the Torres Strait Islands. Many of the original accounts of games were recorded during the nineteenth century by explorers, government officials, settlers, scientists and missionaries. Our primary students enjoyed learning more about the indigenous culture through playing games and keeping active.
