Congratulations to Faye Magee who is this year's DUX with an ATAR of 98.6! Faye has achieved her goals and has been accepted to study a Bachelor of Commerce and Science at Monash University. We caught up with Faye recently and asked her a few questions about her Year 12 experience and what is on the horizon for her this year.

Our 2018 DUX Felice Lok achieved a perfect study score of 50 in English Language and an ATAR score of 98.35. Felice is set to study Bachelor of Laws and Arts at Monash University this year. Felice shares how she remained focused while facing the challenges throughout year 12 and what her biggest take away from the year was and what her plans are for the future.

Do you have any advice for this year's 2021 Year 12 cohort?

Jerome - Academically, be organised. When you schedule things efficiently, keep track of your progress and tasks, it helps to reassure that you are achieving your goals and maintain order in the chaos of Year 12. Compared to a state of disarray, where you can lose track of time, assessments and homework, resulting in you feeling really demotivated. But Year 12 isn't only about your academics, focus on living your life outside of school. Keep up with your sporting activities, music lessons and work, so you maintain that "work-life" balance by having these distractions that will really soothe your stress. Make sure you and your friends make time to go out for brunch, dinners and parties, you'll be able to fondly look back at Year 12 as an amazing rather than just your ATAR or study.

What have you got planned for this year?

Jerome - I'm currently studying. I don't know exactly what career I want to attain. My friends, family and even my teachers know I have many interests, hobbies and plans and it's really hard to settle with one. Some of the careers I have considered included pursuing medicine for a career as a cosmetic dermatologist, law to be a commercial or in-house lawyer, education to be a high school teacher or working in the department of education or even a pastry chef to be an owner of a patisserie. As I said, too many interests and ideas, but right now potentially a cosmetic formulator or a data scientist considering my degrees.

Would you like to share anything else with the DSC community?

Jerome - I want to give a special mention to the music department. My best memory at school was going to New Zealand in 2018 for a music tour with a group of people who weren't just my "music friends" but friends who I cherish and love. These friends know who they are and have been a part of my journey for all these years. The music staff especially, Ms Howes and Mr Dean, have always done their best to give us an amazing experience and time. Music camp and all the concerts are phenomenal memories I hold and I regret that I never told them in person and at the time how much I appreciated their work. Lastly to all my teachers for the 6 years I've attended this school, thank you very much. You've all had a role in shaping the student and person that I became today. Some of you, particularly Ms Dulger, I cannot ever thank you enough in words or actions with my gratitude for how you've shaped my views, experiences and thoughts.

Top Subject Score of 47

Physical Education

CONGRATULATIONS JOLENE NG!

Our students achieved a median score of 30 for their VCE units and we’d like to especially congratulate Jolene Ng for earning a top subject score of 47 in Physical Education. Jolene shared some insight into her experience throughout Year 12 and what her plans are for the future.

Do you have any advice for this year's 2021 Year 12 cohort?

Jolene - Make the most of the year and enjoy your last year of high school with your friends. VCE isn’t purely academic and finding a balance between extra-curricular activities, social events and studies is important to not “burn out” (and also to have fun). Year 12 may seem like a marathon and be a drag at times, but there are so many people, like friends, family, teachers and peers, who will support and encourage you through the year. Your teachers are really great resources and are able to give personalised help, extra resources and invaluable feedback.

Do you have any idea of what career path you would like to take?

I plan to begin my degree of Bachelor of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University next month. Once graduating, I'd like to become a practising physiotherapist after graduating from university.

Doncaster Secondary College is proud of all students’ VCE and VCAL success during such an extraordinary year. We're also extremely proud of our staff for their hard work and dedication to challenging our students to be their best.
