I am quite surprised when I knew that I got a music award when the teacher told me about it. This is my first year of my high school journey and I was so excited when I received the certificate on the stage. I will work hard next year and hope that I will got an award of Academic Excellence award

I'm so glad that I can get this award and I think it's a recognition of my hard work. But I also know it isn't the end, it is a higher beginning for me to keep working and trying my best

I received an Academic Excellent Award and Year 9 Merit Award. I don’t think I would be able to achieve these awards without my teachers and my friends support so I want to say thank you to all my year 9 teachers and my friends’ contributions to help me achieve my goals.

I received the Merit Award for my year level, Academic Excellence for all of my 6 subjects including Math Methods, Math Specialists, EAL, Accounting and Business Management. As a student, receiving these awards is one of the most unforgettable moments in my high school life. I’m very grateful to have all the amazing people around me and without them, I wouldn’t be able to receive these awards.

I received my certificate for 'Tournaments of Minds' which I participated in mid last year and the 'Kiwanis Club of Manningham Citizenship Award 2020'. Due to the COVID 19 restrictions, parents were not able to witness the ceremony, however, videos and photos were taken by the school while students received their awards. The ceremony was so different from previous years yet so memorable!

DET Summer Holiday Program Activities

The 2020 summer holiday was unique for all international students at DSC as they couldn’t go back to their home country to reunite with their family members if they chose to continue study in Australia.  The Department of Education and Training (DET) organised Summer Holiday Program activities for all international students who live with homestay hosts. We had quite a few international students sign up and actively participate.

Here is feedback and reflection of their experience:

We were lucky enough to have some nice sunny weather during the holidays and we went to the Melbourne Zoo and the Melbourne Star. With the COVID19 restrictions, it was a good opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. We really appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of the department to provide the opportunity to visit these popular destinations. It really helps with both the mental and physical health of our students.

COVID-19 in the year 2020 was a difficult year for everyone including our students who were undergoing online studies.  The majority of our international students however have had no physical contact with their friends or families who reside overseas for almost over one year.  This placed enormous emotional stress not only to all local students and families but in particular to our international students who missed out seeing their loved ones overseas.
I am a homestay mother who resides with her partner and two Vietnamese international students, Don 17 and Heather 14.  During the school summer vacation, we attended the Melbourne Zoo, Philip Island and Sealife at the Melbourne Aquarium, tickets, which were provided for by the Department of Education.   In addition, we separately attended Luna Park in St Kilda.
We all enjoyed the Melbourne Zoo with all the animals and reptiles, the Butterfly Cage, its luscious green forest surroundings and the Cat Alley with its murals.  Also, Philip Island with the Penguins with a bonus of getting a closer view of the Penguins whilst they were heading to their burrows, the close view of the Koalas at Philip Island and the ambience of the Aquarium with its Seahorses, the larger Penguins and the rainforest. Inclusive in all these trips we combined a lunch or dinner to make a day of it.
Our family, cannot thank the Education Department enough, for honouring such tickets.  Such trips were educational and interesting and we certainly all had a great time.
