Music Matters

Music Matters

The Music department has returned with a bang in 2021. The energy around the Music Centre has been noticeably buzzing with students keen to get started on lessons as soon as possible and return to face to face learning and on-site rehearsals. We have a new batch of students around the Music lockers and the community vibe is strong.

YEAR 7 RECRUITMENT

Our new year 7s have filled out surveys to register their interest in the instruments they’d like to try. They have keenly participated in tryouts when the instrumental teachers have visited their classrooms and the teachers have reported some good talent amongst them. Most instrumental teachers have now seen any year 7s who showed interest in their instrument and students will now be asked to complete a preference survey since they’ve tried their three choices.

Parents will have a chance to ask any questions they have of the instrumental staff and see the instruments in action at the Year 7 social barbecue on Tuesday evening, 9 February from 5:30 pm. They will also be able to sign up for lessons on their chosen instruments. If you can’t attend, registration forms will be emailed out to prospective students’.

WIND SYMPHONY: THE FIRST ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM IN 2021

Wind Symphony our senior concert band, will be performing at the Year 7 social barbecue mentioned above. After a year of no public performances for Wind Symphony in 2021, last year’s VCE students returned to school for a one-off rehearsal this week. Not only was it fantastic to see them back but the current students were very appreciative of them getting out of their holiday routine and making it to school for a 7:45 am rehearsal on Thursday. The band sounded fantastic considering the long break from playing together. It will be a fantastic way for the new year 7 students and parents to hear and see these exciting instruments played live.

 ROCK PROGRAM AUDITIONS

On Thursday this week Rock Program auditions were held with an impressive group of students showing their skills on guitar, bass, drums and vocals. We’re looking forward to hearing the new bands that will be formed. If you missed out on the auditions, it’s not too late. Please contact Mr Dean in the Music office to arrange a time for him to hear you play.

The four bands from 2020 are continuing on in 2021, so we may have up to six rock bands firing in lessons on Thursdays. Look out for lots of live performances on the Music Centre stage at lunchtimes this year.
