A student-centred approach to Teaching and Learning

Developmental Rubrics

All year 7 and 11 teachers will be introducing Developmental Rubrics to their classes over the next couple of weeks. Other year levels may be using Developmental Rubrics and we intend to transition the entire school in the next two years.

 

Developmental Rubrics will assist students in knowing where they are in their learning and understanding what they need to do and learn, to get to the next level. Teachers will be using Developmental Rubrics with their classes to set learning intentions at the beginning of lessons and using them with students towards the end of the lesson to evaluate what has been learnt. The purpose of these Developmental Rubrics is to make the learning visible and to give students more agency in their learning. We want to empower our students in their learning by focussing on growth and progression and ensuring that all students can access the learning at their level.

 

 

Student Centred Learning Model (Instructional Model)

To support the implementation of the Developmental Rubrics as a teaching and learning tool, we have adopted a school wide approach to what this looks like in the classroom.  Posters are now in every classroom and teachers will be using this lesson structure to ensure we are focussing on students demonstrating their evidence of learning through explicit teaching of key skills and knowledge. 

 

 

 

 

Term One Reports

Our Term One Reports will require students and teachers to both assess the learning behaviours of the student. This partnership in assessment is vital to giving students a voice and agency in their learning. The data is presented in a graph and allows parents, students and teachers to compare the data and engage in deeper conversations about the learner at our Student Conferences.

 

We look forward to discussing our Student-Centred approach to Teaching and Learning at our upcoming Student Conferences towards the end of this term.
