안녕하세요!
It has been wonderful to have all students back at school and learn face-to-face this term. We have been doing lots of hands-on activities and games to make the most of learning onsite. Here are some of the things that we have done in Term Four.
Also, the winners for the year book cover are revealed, please scroll down to the bottom to find out!
We revised what we learned about Korean flag during remote learning as well as learned about Australian and Australian Indigenous people's flags. Also, we looked into the shape of Korea and Australia and decorated them with their floral emblem.
We compared what cutleries are used in Australia and Korea and shared our experiences of using chopsticks for different food. We also played a game stacking mini dice using chopsticks!
Making a 부채 (Bu-che)
We listened to a Korean folktale 'Red Fan & Blue Fan' and made a Bu-che (fan) of our own with the colour of fruits . Some are ddal-gi (strawberry), su-bak (watermelon) or podo (grape)!
토끼 & 자라
We also listened to another Korean folktale 'To-ggi (rabbit) and Ja-ra (turtle)' and created a mini dictionary with the words we learned - Ocean, rabbit and turtle in Korean. We practiced how to write syllables with Korean vowels.
Making a 탈(tal: Mask)
We explored Korean traditional masks (탈 Tal) and discussed how they were used and why they all have different expressions. We also created our own using traditional Korean craft papers (Han-ji)!
Korean culture and heritage
Since we have not had an opportunity to interact with students in Korea this year, Year 5-6 students had a virtual visit to Korea by researching and sharing information about different Korean cultural heritages and sites.
Big thank to teachers and families who provided sufficient time for students to work on their Yearbook cover design and to all students participated in. It was very difficult to choose only two among all the great pieces submitted, as we saw considerable thoughts and efforts in each work. After discussing with Dale and Mrs. Nissen, the design from Karinda. H (R19) and Arliah. B (R19) is chosen for the front and back cover respectively. Again, we appreciate all the students' hard work. We would like to share some of them so that you can see why it was so hard to make a decision!
