Picnic at Fitzroy Gardens

Last Friday, Year 5-10 international students visited Fitzroy Gardens for an afternoon picnic.  Within the beauty of the gardens, students undertook a range of organised team-building activities with their peers.  Additionally, there was an Awards Ceremony and time to reflect on a very challenging year.  Year 10 students also set personal learning goals in preparation for starting VCE in 2021. This was an amazing and fun day with educational and social benefits for all involved. Well done everyone!

On Wednesday, I requested that all international students gather in the Library before starting their homework session so that I could farewell the cohort and wish them the very best with their future endeavours.  To my surprise I received flowers and a beautiful card signed by students wishing me luck and best wishes at my new appointment next year.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all international students and their families for their support and contributions to school life at Collingwood College.  I am always amazed at the resilience of young people studying abroad and dealing with the day-to-day challenges of studying, adapting to a different environment and culture whilst, simultaneously, learning a new language. I know from my own experiences of overseas travel that this is demanding at any age – I truly admire and respect our international students for their courageous dispositions!

The International Students’ Support Team is looking forward to meeting our new students who will join the international cohort once travel restrictions are lifted.  For the time being, it has been nice to meet and greet these students via Skype.

Best wishes for a restful and safe break with families and friends.
