Principal's Report

Dear Collingwood College,

A Personal Message from the Principal….

2020 will be the year that will never be forgotten! We all experienced learning and living as it has never been before. Whether you liked it or not, we all had to rise to the occasion and apply ourselves with determination, single-mindedness and certainly, resilience. To each and every one of you, I salute you. We all applied ourselves with positivity and endurance, displaying a positive understanding of the far-reaching impact of what ISO, Remote Learning and COVID Restrictions were about.

Teachers, parents and the entire school community demonstrated great resilience, both in the learning and in all the challenges that came our way. The students showed fortitude and positivity and the lesson learnt here was that one can overcome challenges or obstacles that life lashes out. 

It has been a year of reflection, angst and at times navigating the unknown. But it also has been a year where as a school community we have all worked together to ensure that our students do not miss out on their learning, that families are supported as much as possible, that our teachers do their best to provide some normality and connection in rather difficult and unknown circumstances and that our school vision and values are not forgotten in this most unusual environment.

The Principal class, Leadership team, the teachers of both the Secondary and Primary school, as well as the ES staff and the Administration team, have made me proud this year.  They have applied themselves in a most dedicated, committed manner and certainly ensured that they would continue to apply themselves and work remotely above and beyond to ensure the students are well cared for and looked after. I cannot begin to share the many stories of dedication, perseverance and personal support that I have witnessed during the unfolding year. It is with great pride and commendation in my role as Principal of this excellent school that I am pleased to be working and leading this team of dedicated professionals.

In the background, the amazing project of the ‘Gasworks’ senior campus is fast becoming a reality as it nears its completion. Our senior students will be enjoying the most beautiful ’state of the art’ surrounds that a student could ever experience. This is a unique concept and one that is fast becoming available for our lucky students. Fantastic educational programs have been delivered, reports are underway and the year is almost at an end.

I will also take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy, safe and relaxing summer vacation. To my remarkable staff, finally a long awaited break for all of you. You have worked far and above the normal expectations constantly. I can see the exhaustion, the stress and the many sacrifices that have been made this year, but finally we have reached the end.

Thank you for the tireless commitment to our school community and your never ending help and commitment this year.  To the parents and the students of Collingwood College, a year like no other, but finally the end is near. Have a safe, and far more relaxing time over the next six weeks. Hopefully, we will all meet in the new year, rejuvenated and ready to start another year in this great school.
