Fashion Revolution Week 2021

Fashion Revolution Week was held on the 19th- 23rd April to coincide with the worldwide movement spreading awareness of the issues caused by the fashion industry. The 24th of April marked the eighth anniversary of the Rana Plaza building collapse which killed 1,134 garment workers and injured over 2,500 more.

For EDSC’s inaugural Fashion Revolution Week, we held a clothing swap, used recycled materials to make a paper doll fashion design (competition), and held a round table discussion via Zoom with some brands who use sustainable fibres such as recycled plastic bottles in their fabrics. We also talked to a business who recycles clothing and have collection hubs all over Australia to manage textile waste that is caused largely by the fast fashion industry.

I would like to thank the student leaders who helped organise and run the events over the week, the guest speakers, the staff who assisted with logistics and donated hangers, and largely to the students and staff who participated in events over the week. We hope to grow Fashion Revolution Week annually, so when you’re buying a new outfit you can think about #whomademyclothes.
