Respect

This term, we will focus on the Franciscan value of Respect.  In Franciscan spirituality, respect is the reverence given to self, others, and all of God’s creation.  Through the respect we extend to all life, the dignity of the human person is upheld and all creation is given the care that it deserves.

Saint Francis and Saint Clare both focused on creating caring communities through their great love and respect for the dignity of each individual and for creation.  They believed in and nurtured genuine friendships based on openness, honesty, mutual interest, and support.  Their outreach was intended to be all-inclusive and they regarded others as equals.  Francis and Clare called men and women to be “brothers” and “sisters”, and they modelled this challenge in their relationships which were always marked by an unconditional respect for the other.

In Home Room this week, we prayed the following prayer to focus our intentions for the term ahead:

Eternal God,

grant us the wisdom to respect all life

that is created and sustained by you.

Bless us with the loving kindness

to respect all people so that we may truly follow

the call of Jesus to be a neighbour to all.

Bless us with the care to tread softly upon the Earth

so that we may truly be your co-creators.

In our words and actions,

may we strive to live respectfully always.

We ask this in the name of Jesus,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God forever and ever.

Amen.

ANZAC Day

The Kedron-Wavell Sub Branch RSL has extended an invitation to our college community to participate in its ANZAC Day services on Sunday 25 April.  There are three events scheduled as part of this commemoration:

5.00am: Assemble for the Dawn Service at War Graves Section, Lutwyche Cemetery. Service will commence at 5.30am.

7.00am: Assemble at the Chermside Historical Precinct, 61 Kittyhawk Drive Chermside, for the March to Kedron-Wavell Services Club.

8.30am: ANZAC Day Service at Kedron-Wavell Services Club.

I extend my thanks to the students who have already registered to represent the College at these events.  If your child has not registered, they are still welcome to attend but, for contact tracing purposes, they will need to 'sign in' using the QR codes at each venue.

Please note the following arrangements:

  • We request that students wear their college uniform, including their hat and blazer.
  • Students attending the 5.30am Dawn Service are to meet Mr Rogusz and Mrs Stower at the cemetery gate, Kitchener Road.  This is the entry opposite Glentanna Street and Reece Plumbing.
  • Students attending the Dawn Service and the March will be required to make their own way from the Dawn Service to the assembly point for the march - Chermside Historical Precinct, 61 Kittyhawk Drive, Chermside.  For this reason, family members are encouraged to accompany students to these services.
  • Students participating in the march and 8.30am service are encouraged to bring a water bottle, especially in the event of warm weather.
