Welcome back 1: USA Art and Design tour
At the MET
Students and staff arrived home from recently from the Northcote High School US Art tour.
The experience was an outstanding success. From our Midtown hotel in Manhattan, New York we were within walking distance to some of the great museums of the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney, The Metropolitan Museum and the Guggenheim. The group engaged in some fascinating workshops and guided tours which gave us precious insight into the their most famous artworks. We also visited other culturally significant NY sites. The experience alone of walking the streets of central Manhattan had an energy all of own.
Washington DC was a cultural highlight where the pace was not as hectic as NY. Here we got to view the historically significant memorials, monuments as well as numerous Museums of the Smithsonian Institute. A special mention for the Yayoi Kusama exhibition ‘Infinity Mirrors’ at the Hirschhorn Museum and Ben's Chilli Bowl!
Finally we stopped in Los Angeles where we visited Universal Studios and Venice Beach and toured some memorable LA hotspots.
We're extremely proud of the way all students conducted themselves on the tour by setting new standards in the level of curiosity and behaviour. All students enthusiastically engaged with each activity and coped admirably with a sometimes exhausting schedule. Their concern for each other and general awareness and behaviour was exemplary.
We hope to have an exhibition of artwork including sketchbooks, diaries, drawings, photos and collage at the school in the next few weeks..
In the meantime have a look at our student led Facebook page.
