Wellbeing

On Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day. It is a special day to highlight the central roles  Mothers play in our lives. We also celebrated the other women in our lives such as guardians, grandmothers, stepmothers, aunts and special friends who have helped to shape and form us into the person we are today.

A week ago we had the opportunity to open our doors and invite these amazing women into our school. We paid tribute to them through the special Assembly lead by our Year 4 and 5 students. It was great to hear Frankie and Clara share what they had written about their mums in their Wellbeing Gratitude Journals.

I also observed the Year 4/5 classroom write in their Gratitude Journals at the end of Harmony Day last week when we didn't have time for our final whole school activity (due to our zealous dancing and drumming with African Star Dance). As I walked past and observed the class reflecting and writing - the room quiet except for soft background music -  I was pleased that Cristina Elicano and the class had taken a moment in the busy day to express their thankfulness. As a new incentive to Wellbeing this year it was great to see it being executed purposefully and meaningfully. It reminds us that, "Thanking others, thanking ourselves, Mother Nature, or the Almighty – gratitude in any form can enlighten the mind and make us feel happier. It has a healing effect on us (Russell & Fosha, 2008).

Back to Mothers Day.... we hope that you enjoyed your breakfast and the opportunity to catch up with one another. A tribute to our mums shouldn't just be one day so take time to press the link below to see a Mother's Day Tribute. It is a beautiful clip about Mums - with short messages from children - young and old - to mums who are here and those who have gone. Take a peek.
