Cricket Report – End of Season 2020/21

KWSCC celebrated the 2020/21 season on Wednesday 24 March with a dinner and awards ceremony attended by Dr Parry, staff, coaches, parents, and students.

Captain of Cricket Phoebe Litchfield was MC and did a wonderful job congratulating all coaches and players for their contributions and achievements throughout the season. A highlight was Phoebe awarding her father, Mr Andrew Litchfield, the Geoff Hull Spirit of Cricket Award for his tireless work as Club Coach over many seasons. Mr David Cumming (KWSCC Treasurer & Secretary) spoke of Andrew’s commitment and dedication to all levels of Kinross cricketers over the years.

The TWIG team supplied a wonderful meal and thanks to Ms Robyn Youll and her team for assisting with catering.

Special mention to Mr Ewan Powell, whose Dr Seuss-inspired recap of the victorious 16 Scorchers season was the highlight of the evening. A copy is below.

An Honest Approach from an Honest Coach

By Mr Ewan Powell

Last time it was Banjo who came to my aid

The loose goose Dr Seuss will this time parade

An absurd herd of words that we’ll set in the torches

To give light to the antics of the Team 16 Scorchers

As a team we’re in comparison and it’s really quite embarrassin’

and the riches in our garrison are added to by Harrison

He’s quiet and he’s calmer, to the batters a snake charmer,

this medium left armer can add batting to his armour

I really like the sound o’

news that we have found a –

nother decent young all rounder

and in this team it does resound a

lot because they do abound. Ah!

With Charlie Condon as a sample, he’s the loftiest example,

his talent’s more than ample with a smile and not a trample

Tom Storer the explorer wears silence as aura

but his start in the semi where he scored a hemi

of a century then next week he took 4 for 3

in the final you see to show that we

adora Tom Storer

WooHoo it’s Hugh, not Thommo it’s true

but the batters hear clatters, no need for review

when they look around, they often found

their stumps are askew and their innings is through.

He also can bat and fields like a cat so for more of that

say WooHoo for Hugh

Now you’ll start to get my sense of poetic license

the liberties taken and foundations shaken

Because a McKenzian Liam is good for the Team

as he bowls like a dream and batters don’t see ‘em and walk off with a scream.

As a bowler he’s thrifty, a batter he’s nifty as shown by his 50, so go for – Te-am Liam

Another nifty fifty but as a bowler not as swift he is Will Kerr

From the stats we can decipher that in the club of Michelle Pfeiffer young Kerr-y is a lifer He is Will Kerr

Cos he’s a wily young leg spinner and can be a big match winner and he does it as a grinner

He is Will Kerr

The nifty fifty club is big, 5 players wear that wig

and one more to get the gig was when Jamie had a dig

He plays the game with soul he can bat and field and bowl

and is often on a roll but a poll of his role says the team is the goal

Mr Slack-Smith known as Cale to name him slack it was a fail

‘cos he runs round like a gale and his heart will never fail

You never quite know what will happen, arms, legs, mouth are all a-flappin’

but you often will be clappin’ and his team mates him back slappin’

this asset to the team

Missing over half a season with injury as the reason it was obviously pleasin’

when the rain slightly stopped on the field he then hopped and immediately whopped

2 balls with great skill it’s his name he is Will a legend to instill

For lanky Tommy Patton there’s developing a pattern he runs rings around like Saturn

because it’s obvious his fashion is to play the game with passion

and sends the ball down to crash on batters who’s teeth they are a nashin’

He bats to the game, either steady or aflame aka smashing, bashing and crashing.

Angus now, or Pingers sends down zingers and some swingers and in the field he never lingers

When in his hand there is the willow, as a coach it’s like a pillow because he often will instil o sense of calm

Whatever he’s called he

will answer to Baldy

As the Captain installed he

ran the Final so lordly.

His heart is the part where we start to see art joining smart

that acts like a dart to the hopes and the dreams of opposing teams

I’m sure you’ve heard chat of the Cat in the Hat

The game that we love has the Guv with the Glove

Inside the glove is a talented pinky attached to a Tinky

and his palm and his arm and shoulder and boulder

The boulder has a mind of the cricketing kind that likes to unwind

as itself does remind of matches and catches and balls he dispatches

If I had to give a reason for some highlights of the season it’s the fact that it was pleasin’ to coach the seam and the cream of the Dream Team
