A Message From Caitlin and Chloe

On the 22 of April, Adna, Lillie, Kya and I went to Botanic Ridge Primary School for a Peer Teaching session. We learnt lots of interesting information about the ocean and ocean creatures. We had to work in groups with students from other schools to present what we had learnt to a Year 1 class. I was first to present, we said our names and then we asked the students if they could describe what the ocean looks like and what animals lived in the sea. Then Adna and Kyas group came on and they talked about the 11 armed Northern Pacific Sea Star.

I’m not saying any more because the Year 1’s will be hearing all of this news very soon. It was a great experience learning new things about the ocean and how to present to a group of strangers.

A really important message we learnt is that all rubbish ends up in the ocean so remind your friends not to drop rubbish on the ground and if you see some rubbish on the ground pick it up!

Thanks from your isea icare ambassadors.

Last Thursday, April 22nd, Billie, Lillie H, Adna and I went to Botanic Ridge Primary School with Ms Forbes.  After signing in we got a bit lost and finally found where we were supposed to go.  There were student representatives from our school, Botanic Ridge Primary School, Pearcedale Primary School and Devon Meadows Primary School.

Mandy from the Dolphin Institute gave a speech and then we had to answer her questions.  The questions were about sea life and their habitat.

We had to do a presentation to the Year 1 students of Botanic Ridge PS.  I chose to be in the group that displayed pictures, and then the students had to guess what it was.  Once they guessed, I had to explain in more detail about the creature, like the proper name, where it lives, if it was good for the local ecosystem or not.

SOMETHING NEW I LEARNT: How the eleven-armed seastar is meant for our waters, but the northern pacific seastar is not good because it eats all the food.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE TIP FROM KYA: Instead of using balloons at birthday parties, blow some bubbles instead (and then recycle the container).
