CSPS Learning Tasks for ongoing Assessment

This year we are transitioning into providing timely snapshots of your child's learning, these are called Learning Tasks. One Learning Task per curriculum area will be uploaded per term.

  • 1 x Writing
  • 1 x Reading
  • 1 x Maths
  • Specialist teachers will begin in Semester 2.

We endeavored to have this begin in Term 1 but we had a few technical issues to problem solve. Students have enjoyed the timely feedback on their learning and we look forward to sharing this with parents. Instructions to view the learning tasks will be sent on COMPASS.

Engaging students in mathematics lessons

A great maths lesson engages students within the first 5 minutes. Teachers have been collaborating and planning engaging warm-up activities, as part of the maths lesson. These warm-ups are purposeful, well-constructed games or number talks that allow students to develop and practice their maths goals.

You may find that your child wants to play a new maths game with you that they learned for the week or share a number problem from their number talks.

Encourage your child's curiosity and enthusiasm about maths. Research suggests parents play a big role in their child's attitude towards maths.

This Term is a big focus on addition and subtraction.  Term 2 Learning Tasks will be uploaded on COMPASS so you can see how your child is progressing.

Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students participate in the national testing  program NAPLAN in the areas of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Mathematics. It is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. Students in Year 3 and 5 will participate in the NAPLAN in week 4.
