Religious Education

K:3 The Easter Season:

This unit explores two Easter Stories; ‘The women at the Tomb’ (Lk 24:1-6) and the second of Jesus’ appearance to his disciples on the shore of Lake Tiberias (Jn 21:1-14). Students will respond to Scripture stories and communicate their knowledge about Jesus.

K:7 God’s Creation

This unit explores the wonder and beauty of God’s creation. It presents creation as God’s gift to God’s people and a reflection of God’s goodness. Prayers of praise for creation and commitment to care are introduced as ways of responding to this gift. The story of Noah and the Ark is presented to the children. It tells of the renewal of creation and God’s promise of blessing of the whole of creation throughout time.

At home, you can assist your child by:

  • Encouraging your child to pray daily.
  • Attending Mass and describing and explaining the Gospel to your child in words they understand.

English

Reading and Viewing:

The English unit will be based on the concept of Creation. The children will be developing skills and strategies to read, view and comprehend a range of literature focusing on the concept of Creation. The students will have the opportunity to respond using different media and technologies.

Writing and Representing:

The children will practise recording sounds they hear in words as well as writing out high-frequency words. We are emphasising writing left to right across the page, leaving spaces in between words, capital letters and full stops. We will continue to undertake daily writing to help the children build more complex sentences.

Speaking and Listening:

In Kindergarten, students learn to listen attentively, follow directions and express themselves fluently in complete sentences. Speaking and listening tasks are necessary in order for children to become successful readers and writers. The children will continue to present their special ‘NEWS’ to the class weekly. This involves the children talking to the class about a particular topic. Each child will have an allocated news day. This term the children will also present an animal research task that relates to our Science Unit.

Mathematics

In Term 2 students will become familiar with addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, length, position and fraction strategies. They will compare order and make correspondences between collections to 20. Data displays are collated and discussed several times throughout the term. Students should become increasingly confident in sorting and grouping objects according to different characteristics. The term ‘equal’ is introduced, whereby students are asked to find two equal parts of a whole.

At home, you can assist your child by:

  • practising counting with your child on a number chart and pose questions such as, “What number comes before and/or after a given number?”
  • asking your child to identify various numbers. For example, “Can you point to the number 12?”
  • practising writing numerals from 0-20 and progress from there. If the children reverse their numbers continue to practise and supervise the direction of writing.

Science and Technology

This term the children will explore the ways in which living things are different and have different needs. We will investigate the basic needs of humans, animals and plants. Students will attend an excursion at Symbio Zoo on Friday 21st May, 2021 to further their knowledge of living things.

During our Mandarin lessons, students participate in structured and routine interactions, such as using learnt sounds, formulaic phrases, and verbal and non-verbal responses.
