Roof of Chambord Castle

Un peu d'histoire...  (A bit of history...)

The small hamlet of Chambord proudly sits next to the immense forested estate of Sologne which envelops and hides the largest and most impressive castle of the Loire Valley. Le château (the castle) de Chambord is superb and truly a royal construction, imposing by its grandeur and graceful by its architecture.

This castle comes out of the dreams of a young King, François the 1st, to build an immense castle, in an Italian Renaissance style, to show his power and wealth to the entire Europe. Coming back from Italy with Leonardo Da Vinci, François the 1st decided to build a gigantic castle representing his passion for architecture and hunting.

However, it was unpleasant to live in, almost uninhabitable. It was too big and with an endless number of rooms (440!), stairs (86) and chimneys (282) , the castle was impossible to heat up. At that time, the mosquitos also invaded the whole area that used to be marshes.

Over his whole life, François the 1st  actually only stayed in the Château less than 40 days!!

Bonjour tout le monde!

J'espère que vous êtes tous en pleine forme (I hope that you are all doing great).

  • The Prep students have just finished their portfolio task and had fun colouring and writing the names of the colours. They all did an amazing job! They are starting to learn a French song that will be presented at Assembly later this year.

  • Grades 1 and 2 students are starting a new topic this week, 'body parts', and will be introduced next week to the Belgian characters Tintin and his little dog Milou.
  • In Grades 3 and 3/4, the students are drawing their own town and labelling it with words that they learnt last Term.  French singing can also be heard trough the corridors during the Grade 3/4 sessions. Let's hope our French band will be ready for an amazing Assembly performance in a few weeks :-)!
  • Finally, after some hard work trying to understand the concept of conjugating French verbs, the Grade 4/5 and 5/6 students are also starting a new topic, 'activities in a city'.

Here is our French chanson (song) of the week: 'Jeanne' from Laurent Voulzy

Bonne semaine à tous! (Have a nice week everyone!)

A bientôt, Talk to you soon,

Delphine
