Wow!!!! How much fun was the Easter Hat Parade and raffle?!?!

It was such a colourful display of hats and smiles! Well done SMPS!

There were over 50 prizes in the Easter Raffle. Congratulations to all the winners! Well done to Rishi Nitesh, 2A, for selling the winning ticket!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to everyone who donated chocolates to the raffle, or who bought or sold a raffle ticket. The raffle would not have been such a huge success if it wasn't for your generosity. The raffle raised $2,800!!! That means we're $2,800 closer to getting our painted line markings in the playground area! Yay!!

A huge THANK YOU to our FAF team members Datta, Doug, Vanessa and Katy for all their hours of hard work collecting raffle tickets, checking raffle ticket money, wrapping the prizes and presenting the prizes to the winners.

Chess, one of the oldest and most popular board games. It's played by two opponents on a checkered board with specially designed pieces of contrasting colours, commonly white and black.

“Chess is a terrific way for kids to build self image and self esteem”(Saudin Robovic)

Chess first appeared in India in about the 6th century AD and by the 10th century had spread from Asia to the Middle East and Europe. Since at least the 15th century, chess has been known as the “royal game” because of its popularity among the nobility. Rules and set design slowly evolved until both reached today’s standard in the early 19th century. Once an intellectual diversion favoured by the upper classes, chess went through an explosive growth in interest during the 20th century as professional and state-sponsored players competed for an officially recognized world championship title and increasingly lucrative tournament prizes. Organised chess tournaments, postal correspondence games, and Internet chess now attract men, women, and children around the world.

A shared story from Georgie, Billy's mum (3/4B):

In January it was my birthday. Billy and I celebrated by climbing from the top of the Thredbo Village chairlift to the summit of Mt. Kosciuszko. It was a 6km walk that took 2 hours! Then we had to walk back down again! We had amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Mt. Kosciuszko is Australia's highest mountain, 2,228m. At one point, Billy and I were higher than anyone else in all of Australia!
