Week 10

Dear Parents and friends,

“We are social animals.

We crave contact with others for support, wellbeing and entertainment”

(Professor Greg Jablonski)

As I read this article titled “The importance of Human Interactions and Relationships” (by Professor Greg Jablonski), I immediately thought of how Friday Night's Color Run and the Year Six and Foundation Buddy Mass had all the elements of this phrase. COVID has really showed us that we need each other and what better way to stay connected than being part of a Catholic School Community.

If you have had the opportunity to watch our promotional video on our website or our Facebook page  you will hear the community (students, parents, teachers) talk about St Fidelis as nurturing, welcoming, belonging, valued, being noticed and positive. All words that not only epitomizes who we are but also words that all contribute to the wellbeing of all students which leads to positive student outcomes.

Thank you to the Parents and Friends for providing an event that brought us altogether once again. Thank you to all the volunteers, who helped with supervising toilets, throwing powder, selling food, preparing food and cleaning up.  Special thanks to Lucy Leahy who instigated this event and was the organizer of all sponsorship cards etc. Thank you to the Spyrou family and the Rocillo family for providing us with sustenance (and extra calories!) for the evening, and to the extra meat free food organized by P&F. It was delicious. Thanks to Adrian D’Aprano for supplying the amazing screen adding to the atmosphere of the night. A big thank you to Sue and her brother Con from Front RowEntertainment for donating their photo booth and their time, it was a big hit with the kids and adults too! All the other parents that assisted with the cooking, buying and selling etcc. Many hands do make light work!!

As mentioned last week all funds raised will go towards continuing the upgrade of the Library and STEM space.

Buddy Mass for Foundation and Year Six Students

Thank you to Mrs Wenckowski and Mr MacGregor, the Year 5/6 teachers and the Foundation teachers for preparing for yesterday’s Mass. It was great celebrating the end of our formal Buddy Program with a Mass as a Catholic Community and on a very special day of our liturgical calendar, Palm Sunday.

Building Update:

Over the holidays, the Raysett Builders will upgrade three areas of the school while the students are not here:

  1. Upgrade the much needed the two sheds in Saunders yard. A big thank you to Chris Archibald, Luke Borg and Neil Watson for spending Saturday morning emptying the sheds so the builders can start immediately. One shed will be transformed into a cleaners, maintenance and storage shed. The other shed will be transformed into a child friendly shed where we can store gardening equipment, pots, soil, gloves etc. that can be used by the teachers and the students.
  2. Cover over the current pergola near the sheds. This will allow for much needed shade for the children and covered play area.
  3. The common area above the STEM /Library building where the current Year 1/2 students are, will also see some minor renovations. Removal of the old cupboards with new ones installed and laying of some carpet squares will see a fresher more inviting area for our future ART and Music/Italian Room.

These projects are best done when the children are not at school and hopefully completed before the children return.
