Wattle House wins House Athletics 2021!!
Congratulations to all students who competed at the House Athletics on March 12, 2021. We had a lovely sunny day, although hot conditions to compete in during March! It was pleasing to see so many students getting involved in organised sport again after the challenges of 2020.

Just a couple of photos from the girls tennis teams that have progressed to the Eastern Metropolitan Finals (won their Monash Division finals).First two are of the A and then A+B teams combined for intermediate girls tennis, held at Heatherdale Tennis Club. They finished 1st (A team) and 2nd (B team, amazing achievement, beating the A teams from the other schools and only losing to Brentwood A!), with the A team progressing to Regionals.
Members: A – Ashleigh Hassler, Angie Nikolova, Chloe Choi, Jasmin Bhoday, Kayla YipB – Madison Taylor, Prachi Kotkar, Laksheya Dayashanker, Kathy Nguyen, Brianna Capon-FlemingLast photo is of the Senior Girls Tennis Team, most of these girls were part of the team that came runners up in the state in 2019, united again for another campaign! They blitzed their opponents and had a really fun and relaxing day together, great chats were had! Looking forward to hopefully taking out arch-rivals Rowville and Forest Hill at regional finals.Members: Klaire Elkin, Jennifer Mcdonald, Cassidy Spotkaeff, Maddison Lowe, Hayley Smith

Brentwood sent two teams to compete at the Monash Division round robin day. The teams were excited to compete after the snap lockdown in February cancelled our original competition date.
The teams competed against John Monash Science School and Wellington SC and they were very competitive. Although they did not progress through to EMR, the team was happy to participate and get back into organized school sport.
Well done to all students who represented Brentwood with outstanding sportsmanship.
Team members – Dean Apostolou, Tom Bower, Davin Cheng, Aarav Gaur, James Karabatsos, Sean McKinnon, Luke Molinaro, Andrew Park, Rohan Ramji and Yash Vardham.

Senior Cricket Boys
The Brentwood First XI Cricket Team enjoyed a successful journey through early division and region games. Victories against Wheelers Hill, Wellington and Ringwood Secondary Colleges presented a challenge against the big hitting Vermont Secondary College for a place in the regional final.
Tight bowling (Cooper George - 4 wickets) and fantastic catches from Brayden Ryan in the deep, Zac Clarke and Josh Liolios – completed with an exuberant celebration; resulted in Vermont being held to 102 runs off their 20 overs. The Brentwood innings failed to generate a significant partnership but we were still chance with Ethan Wright at the crease, who all bat managed to carry his bat and remain not out for the entire innings. Hopes ultimately rested on number 11 batsman William Beck who calmly drove for 4 to tie the match and then blasted another 4 to cow corner to surpass the Vermont total and win the match. The unlikely victory prompted an on-field celebration that reminded everybody in attendance how great it was to be back playing school sport after the travails of 2020 and COVID restrictions.
A quick turnaround to suit up in the final against the Darren Berry coached Rowville Cricket Academy team was a tough assignment. Early wickets asked a few questions of the Academy team who train all year round with under the tutelage of the former state cricketer. Alas, Rowville proved too strong in the end. Brentwood fell about 20 runs short in their chase but a great day was had by all players, both seasoned cricketers and first timers. Well done team. Thanks also to Adithya Krishnakumar and Mr Wilson for scoring.

Staff v Students Memorial Cricket Match
On Friday 19th Feb the 17th instalment of the ‘Staff v Students Memorial Cricket Match’ took place on the school oval.
The game was played in memory of Daniel Draper, who commenced his studies at Brentwood in 2002 as a Year 7 student. He sadly passed away in December 2004. Daniel was a promising cricketer and footballer who represented Brentwood in a range of sports. Daniel's Dad (Ray) played again this year and he presented the 'shield' to the winners at the end of the game.
The Twenty/20 match started at 3:15pm and the students went in to bat first. The students made a steady start and Ash Pensa was finding the boundary with ease (30 not out). He was joined at the crease by Ruby Burns who had a fine knock, before being stumped for 17. Will Bromley (25), Brayden Ryan (27) and Cooper George (26) all contributed with the bat. Had it not been for the excellent bowling from Rod Dungan (2 – 17) and Jimmy Davatzis (0 – 3) the student’s total of 152 would have been a lot higher.
The staff went into bat facing a mighty task and to be fair never really came close, with the only resistance to some excellent bowling coming from Edin Selimovic (21) and Peter Rhodes (20). The students bowling was fast and accurate, with Brodie Wise picking up 2 wickets for only 3 runs. In the end the staff were soundly beaten, leaving Ray Draper with the honours of presenting the shield to the students.
The current score line stands at 9 – 7 in favour of the students (with one draw). Hopefully next year the staff will rebound with a win…we shall see!
